Full Description

A hoard of Roman coins 'nearly 3 stone weight' was found at Ancaster in 1841. {1}{2}{3}{4} 'In the year 1841, a mass weighing 28 lbs was brought to light in digging a hole for a post, in front of Mr Eaton's house, close to the edge of Ermine Street.' A total of 2159, 3rd century antoniniani coins, ranging from Valerian I to Aurelian (253 - 275 AD) were recorded. {5}
