Full Description
AN UNUSUAL SITE ON A VERY CLAYEY RODDON (FORMER RIVER WELLAND). FINDS INCLUDE SHERDS OF ROMANO BRITISH POTTERY, FIRED CLAY AND SOME ANIMAL BONE. {1} THE BRIQUETAGE IS OF UNUSUAL CHARACTER AND MAY PREDATE USE OF THE SITE BY THE ROMANS. THE SITE IS LOCATED ON A RODDON IN AN ISOLATED POSITION WELL AWAY FROM GENERAL DISTRIBUTION OF ROMAN OR IRON AGE SITES. A TRIAL TRENCH WAS DUG TO DETERMINE WHETHER INTACT FEATURES AND ORGANIC REMAINS WERE PRESENT. A DITCH WAS IDENTIFIED AND SOIL SAMPLES WERE TAKEN.
