Full Description
Area TF18473255 Possible Roman settlement site. Traces of enclosure(s) and causeway under plough, seen as crop marks on Aps. A Roman pot of light grey ware was found when Mr Patman of Middle Fen Farm, Quadring, was digging a drainage grip about 1933. Numerous sherds of the same ware are found on the surface of the field, NW of Calf Bridge.{3}
The exact site is not clear, but perhaps in the area of the possible settlement.{1}{2}{3}
Mr Patman is no longer known at Middle Fen Farm. The area is under crop; there is no visible evidence of occupation. The headmaster at the adjacent Quadring Fen School, has found nothing here during a search of the area.{1}
THERE IS A DIFFUSE SCATTER OF POTTERY ACROSS THE SITE. THERE ARE ALSO FIRED CLAY BALLS WHICH ARE THOUGHT TO BE NET-WEIGHTS, TILE FRAGMENTS AND A POLISHED GREENSTONE. {5}
