Full Description

PRN 22473 An 'Old Windmill' is marked on the Ordnance Survey map of the 1950s. {1} This tower mill was built for Charles Treffitt in 1843, and construction began on 17 February. It worked until the 1920s by wind after which it ran by engine for a number of years. The six sails, which powered the 3 pairs of stones, were taken off in the 1930s and reputedly put on Brunswick Mill. It was eventually gutted for its iron work and abandoned. It was derelict in 1985 though the current owner hopes to conserve and improve it. {2}{3} A tower windmill, built for Charles Treffitt in 1843. It is built in red brick with moulded brick eaves and has 6 storeys. The interior of the mill is reputed to contain the remains of a wooden upright shaft, some tentering gear and the remains of a hurst on the ground floor.
