Full Description

Nearly three quarters of a mile south-west of St Ives' cross, is another cross stone, somewhat sunk in the ground. Traditionally thought to be a market cross, but more probably a boundary cross or religious marker. {1} The 'stone' in this location is a restored, medieval, wayside cross. {2}{3} Fragment of a medieval boundary cross at Old Fen Dyke, Sutton St James. It is made of limestone ashlar and is thought to date from the 14th century. The monument includes the chamfered rectangular base, comprising a socket stone, and part of the rectangular shaft.
