Full Description

THIS IS A SAXON SETTLEMENT WITH TWO DISTINCT AREAS WITH MIDDLE TO THE WEST, AND EARLY/MID SAXON TO THE EAST. THE AREAS ARE SLIGHTLY MOUNDED. THERE WERE NO ROMAN FINDS FROM THIS SITE WHICH SUGGESTS THAT WHERE ROMAN SITES LAY JUST BENEATH THE SURFACE OF THE SILT, THEY PRODUCED A TOPOGRAPHICAL OR VEGETATIONAL ANAMOLY WHICH ATTRACTED SETTLERS IN THE EARLY SAXON PERIOD. {1}, HTM 4M
