Domesday records a manor in Goserberton with a population of thiry four families and three salt pans. (see prn 20080). {1}
During a watching brief at TF2380 3180 an undated pit was recorded. Two walls that are thought to be associated with a cottage that existed in the 1940s were recorded together with a selection of pottery ranging from the 19th century to the present day.{2}{3}
During a watching brief in 1998 at TF2371 3180, several features of late Saxon and medieval date were recorded. Two north/south aligned ditches or channels were thought to be either boundaries separating the church from agricultural land or drainage channels. A north-west/south-east aligned ditch and possible associated bank may also represent flood protection. Alternatively, they may be part of an outwork or moat associated with the nearby moated manor believed to be Doubledike. Possible rubbish pits are also consistent with the site lying on the edge of a settlement or moated manor. Ridge and furrow on an east/west alignment was recorded in the immediate area of the north wing of Gosberton House.{4}{5}
