Full Description

ORIGINALLY BUILT AS A THEATRE/WAREHOUSE, THIS BUILDING WAS USED AS A THEATRE FOR THE ANNUAL SEASON AND A WAREHOUSE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. THE WAREHOUSE EXTENSION WAS BUILT C.1814 AFTER THE RIVER WALL WAS BUILT. THE THEATRE CLOSED IN 1820 WHEN A NEW ONE WAS BUILT ELSEWHERE. THIS BUILDING WAS THEN USED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES TO THE PRESENT. IT IS AN IRREGULAR SHAPED BUILDING, BUILT OF BRICK WITH A SLATE ROOF, AND IS 30 FEET WIDE. THE ORIGINAL BUILDING EXTENDS 50 FEET BACK FROM THE ROAD, AND THE EXTENSION IS 24 FEET LONG BEHIND THAT. THE FLOOR IN THE EXTENSION IS ABOUT 3 FEET 6 INS LOWER THAN IN THE ORIGINAL BUILDING. THE ORIGINAL BUILDING IS THREE STORIES HIGH WITH A CELLAR EXTENSION FIVE STORIES HIGH, ONE FLOOR LEVEL WITH THE CELLAR OF THE ORIGINAL, AND ONE HIGHER THAN THE ORIGINAL BUILDING. {1}
