Full Description

PRN 13422 This record incorporates the former PRN 13601 which has now been removed from the HER. WORK AT CHURCH ROAD, SKIRBECK, IDENTIFIED A DITCH AND A RODDON BUT FOUND NO DATING EVIDENCE FOR EITHER FEATURE. THERE WERE ALSO TWO UNDATED GULLIES FOUND ON THE SITE ALTHOUGH IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THESE MAY BE ROMAN. {1}{2} During a watching brief in 1997/1998, a series of undated ditches and gullies on varying alignments were recorded. The evidence suggests that this area was unsuitable for permanent settlement in the post-Roman period due to repeated flooding.{3}{4} During trial trenching in 2002, a steep sided linear feature was identified, thought to be an artificial drainage ditch, although there is a possibility that it could be a palaeochannel.{5}{6}
