Full Description

A large pit of probable Late Medieval date was encountered during a programme of trial trenching in December 2016. The pit contained a large quantity of furnace slag, indicating the probable presence of a nearby industrial site. {1}{2} It is possible that this furnace waste is associated with th early post-Medieval pottery kilns found a short distance to the west (see MLI89291).
