Full Description

A 'U'-shape complex of former agricultural outbuildings dating to the mid-19th century, representing the working part of the farmstead known as The Roanes. The complex comprised three connected ranges of buildings around a crewyard, which was open to the south. The whole complex is constructed of red brick in a variation Flemish Bond, forming a single storey under a gabled pantile roof. The East range comprised a stable, in poor condition with collapsed gable and roof structure, and a loose box. The central range includes a secondary stable with a brick trough and timber hayrack, though most of the range is taken up by a three-bay shelter shed, open to the south, with bullnosed brick pillars. A cart shed with opening to west, and a small threshing barn with infilled circular pitch holes make up the West range. The barn's roof had also collapsed, and its central entrances had been infilled with brick. Use of the complex appears to have continued into the 20th century, evidenced by repairs and alterations to the brickwork, including the near complete rebuild of the East range, and the blocking of various former openings as the use of the buildings changed. {1}{2}
