Full Description

Riby Grove was a large 18th century country house built in the Palladian style, with considerable additions in the 19th century. The seat of the Tomline family from 1680, it was bequeathed to George Pretyman, Bishop of Lincoln, in 1803, on the condition that he take the name Pretyman Tomline. The Riby estate was sold by the family and the house demolished in the mid-1930s. {1}{2}{3} Satellite imagery and map data suggests that the range of buildings to the northwest of the house itself (probably originally servants' quarters or working buildings such as stables) may still survive, or have been replaced by modern buildings on the same footprint. Known on modern OS maps as Riby Park Cottages. {4}{5}
