Full Description

An Iron Age or Roman pit containing a burnt deposit including charcoal and burnt pebbles, encountered on land at Poplar Farm Primary School, Grantham, during an archaeological evaluation in 2018 . Although no datable finds were recovered from the feature, an environmental sample revealed charred cereal grain including elongated wheat and spelt wheat glume bases, which are generally only found in Britain in later Prehistoric or Roman contexts. {1}{2}
