Full Description

The sunken earthwork remains of a former road or hollow way on land to the east of Main Street and south of Station Road, Torksey. The road runs east-northeast to west-southwest and aligns with the original route of Station Road, before it was diverted for the construction of the railway in the mid 19th century. During trial trenching in November 2015 , a gully dating to the Late Saxon period was encountered immediately to the south, running parallel to the earthworks. This may suggest an origin for the road. The eastern end of the depression is shallower and may have been filled in when the railway embankment was created. {1}{2}
