Full Description

During a programme of trial trenching in January-February 2023, ditches forming a probable Medieval field system were encountered, along with a waste pit of the same date. A moderate quantity of Medieval pottery, mostly dating to the 12th-13th centuries, was recovered. A row of three postholes running perpendicular to one of the ditches may be contemporary with these features, though the finds recovered from their fills included ceramic building material and pottery from the 17th to 18th centuries, so it is possible that they represent a later phase of use of the site. {1}{2}
