Full Description

An intercutting series of Late Saxon to Medieval ditches and associated pits were identified in August 1995, during archaeological monitoring of groundworks for an extension to The Giles School. An assemblage of early 10th to 15th century pottery was recovered from these features, along with fragments of Medieval brick, tile and animal bone. The analysis of environmental samples taken from the fills of the ditches would indicate that they were used for the dumping of domestic refuse, suggesting that they were close to an area of habitation, possibly with manorial connections. {1}{2}
