Monument record MLI12762 - POSSIBLE MEDIEVAL MILL MOUND, FISHTOFT

Summary

POSSIBLE MEDIEVAL MILL MOUND, FISHTOFT

Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

A mound is visible on the ordnance survey one inch to the mile 1824 map. {1} The mound (referred to as mound B) was seen by the ordnance survey field inspector in 1965 as flat topped, sharply profiled and about three metres high. Possibly flood refuges or mill mounds and certainly medieval. {2} The two mounds here have also been interpreted as Bronze Age burial mounds (see PRN12759). This does not mean they could not also have been windmill mounds.
