Full Description
A historic building survey was undertaken on the barn in July 2024. Built between 1837 and 1869, it was originally the north range of a U-shape crewyard complex. Both the west and east ranges were demolished in the latter half of the 20th century. The barn was constructed of red brick and had a modern replacement hipped pantile roof. The scars of the two demolished ranges could still be seen at first floor height on the barn's south elevation; surviving integral brickwork from the east range suggests it was built at the same time as the barn, while the scar of the west range ran through an infilled window opening and was therefore a later construction (though still before 1869). As well as a threshing barn with mirrored barn doors on the north and south ranges, the surveyed building included a small stable and a three bay cart shed, with hayloft space above both. In the centre of both the north and south elevations were two diamond pattern brickwork vents. The southern barn doorway had a brick arch with dressed stone keystone, springing points and base stones. {1}{2}
