Full Description
A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted in 2006 on the groundworks for a new doctor's surgery on land adjacent to 5 Paddock Close, Ancaster. At the western end of the site, close to the modern route of Ermine Street, a pair of parallel ditches of Roman date were encountered during the cutting of a section of service trench. These ditches were aligned approximately north-south, slightly off the alignment of the road. Four sherds of Roman pottery were recovered from the fills of these ditches. {1}{2}
