Summary
Stratigraphic phases of garden and domestic activity, dating from the post-medieval to early modern periods, was uncovered during trial trneching on land adjacent to Post Office, Waddingham. A mixed assortment of finds were also recovered from the excavation.

Full Description
A series of features were uncovered during trial trench excavation on land adjacent to the Post Office, Silver Street, Waddingham. The features consisted of a series of pits and linear features, located at the south eastern end of the trench. The features revealed two stratigraphic phases of garden and domestic activity on the site. Several sherds of pottery were found during excavation, dating from the post-medieval to the early modern period. These included sherds of Cistercian-type ware (1480-1650AD), Black-glazed ware (1550-1750AD) and Nottingham Stoneware (1690-1900AD). A further assemblage of finds were also uncovered from the trench, including brick and tile fragments, an iron nail, glass fragments, clay tobacco pipe stem and two sheep bones.{1}{2}
