Summary
A series of partially intercutting and intersecting ditches, possible enclosures, and pits or postholes were identified during trial trenching in 2018. The paucity of finds and the form of the features was considered suggestive of a possible agricultural landscape pre-dating the 18th century emparkment or the land within which the site is located.

Full Description
A series of partially intercutting and intersecting ditches, possible enclosures, and pits or postholes were identified during the excavation of two trial trenches in 2018. While several of the ditches appeared to be of comperable nature, they were diverse in form. Some of the ditches appear to relate to each other and were believed to intersect beyond the limit of excavation, forming rectilinear enclosures. A ditch in the northernmost trench was located between two small pits in an arrangement possibly suggestive of postholes. The paucity of finds and the form of the features was considered suggestive of a possible agricultural landscape, although based on the apparent shallowness of the features they are though to pre-date the 18th century emparkment or the land within which the site is located, as it is likely they have been damaged by ploughing which would not have occurred following the emparkment. {1}{2}
