Full Description
A system of enclosures and ditches cutting the gravel remains of a palaeochannel was identified at Ludborough Road, North Thoresby during trial trenching. The enclosures and ditches appear to eminate from the course of a palaeochannel, found on excavation to be represented by a gravel spread providing an area of increased drainage. A system of several rectilinear enclosures and ditches cross both sides of the palaeochannel, but are focused on the northeastern side. No definitively structural remains were recorded, however two postholes including one packed with large stones are suggestive. The majority of the pottery recovered was of 3rd century date, but Late Iron Age and 1st and 2nd century material was also recovered. The relationship between this area of settlement and the area to the notheast (MLI127280) is unclear, but they are of comperable date and form. {1}{2}
