Full Description
One of several metalworking sites in the immediate area dating to c.10th to 11th century AD or earlier. Iron melting slag, smithing slag, a crucible fragment, and part of a plano-convex hearth feature which was stratigraphically below a clay layer containing 10th and 11th century pottery were identified during excavations along with two probable ditch features. {1}{2}
