Full Description
Former working farm compound comprising three ranges of buildings around a south facing crewyard. A historic building survey was carried out in 2021, prior to the proposed conversion of the complex to a residential dwelling. The buildings are all of red brick, mostly in English Garden Wall Bond or a variation with four or five rows of stretchers to each row of headers, under pitched gabled tile roofs. The West Range is a single storey, with a single timber door at the South end of the East elevation and one single door and two small windows on the South gable elevation. The northernmost three bays of the four-bay West elevation are open to the eaves, and an internal dividing wall creates a small store room at the South end of the range. The East Range is also single storey, under a pantile roof with ceramic ridge tiles. It has a string course below the eaves. There are two entrances with simple plank doors in the West elevation. A large opening at the North end of the West elevation has been infilled with modern brick, appended to the original brickwork with a straight joint. It is suggested that this was originally a cart shed, either open to the eaves or with large double doors. There are now animal feed troughs inside this cell, suggesting a change in use. A small cell at the North end of the Eest Range has been combined with part of the North Range by removing an internal dividing wall to create a large milking parlour. The North Range itself comprises three distinct outbuildings: the single storey milking parlour at the East end, a three storey barn, hayloft, and dovecote in the centre, and a one and a half storey outbuilding at the West end. The hay loft has a winding mechanism for lifting hay bales from the floor below, still in situ. {1}{2}
