Full Description

Single storey cross-wing plan building of coursed limestone, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. Bell gable on east gable elevation, beneath which is a dedication stone reading 'CARLTON AND NORMANTON NATIONAL SCHOOL'. One ridge stack. Coped gables. Ashlar quoins and window surrounds. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a large National School and schoolmaster's house were built in 1841 for the parishes of Carlton Scroop and Normanton. {2} The school can be seen on the 1889 and 1905 OS maps of the village. {3}{4}
