Full Description

Former school. Red brick building in Flemish Bond, under an unusual half-hipped bonnet roof. The gable end has decorative timber frame panelwork and bargeboards. Small gabled entranceway with decorative brick arch and stone door surround. One large ridge stack. Interior main hall is open to the rafters. Exposed roof trusses. Infilled red brick fireplace, over which hangs the school bell. House to the south is the old schoolmaster’s house (MLI93067). The building is now used as a tea room. {1}{2} White’s 1856 Trade Directory states that the school was supported by the Massingberd family. {3} Notice was given in the Grimsby Daily Telegraph in January 1972 that the school was due to be closed. {4}
