Full Description

School building representing multiple phases of construction. Original schoolroom is a one and a half or two storey building of yellow brick construction, with yellow and dark red brick polychromatic window arches, under a steeply pitched gabled roof of slate with one ridge stack. To the west is a smaller red brick extension in English Garden Wall Bond, with red brick window arches, date stone reading 'EWC 1887', under a steeply pitched slate roof with one ridge stack. An expansion of the school in 1998 included a large yellow brick hall and reception, with a date stone on the gable of the hall. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school was built 'recently', and was large enough to accommodate the children of Hackthorn and Cold Hanworth. {2} The 1905 OS map shows the school with only the original building and red brick extension extant. {3}
