Full Description
A smithy building is marked in this location on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. It possibly dates to the 18th century, when chalk quarrying activity at Mill Hill Quarry is thought to have commenced (see MLI126027). The smithy would likely have been used to sharpen tools and repair equipment used in the qurry. Although now largely demolished, fragments of the structure can still be discerned near the entrance to the quarry site. {1}{2}
