Full Description

A programme of trial trenching was undertaken on land at 6-9 Swinegate, Grantham. A range of Saxo-Norman to medieval pottery was recovered as unstratified or residual, comprising nine sherds of St Neots ware and eight pieces of Stamford ware. A high proportion of the Saxo-Norman to medieval dated ceramics have sooting patterns indicative of usage over a hearth or fire, and one sherd has a thick, pale internal cess or scale deposit. {1}{2}
