Full Description
Probable mid 19th century former farmhouse at 20 High Street. It is of two storeys, and built of coursed limestone with pitched roofs of slate. The house is believed to date from 1841, but is thought to have replaced an earlier farmhouse structure on the same site. A number of earlier structures on the former farmstead are depicted in this lcoation on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. Many of the former farmstead buildings were cleared during redevelopment of the site in the 1970s, although some of the earlier structures still survive, including a former privy to the rear of the farmhouse, and a well and outhouse to the east (see MLI125886). Fragments from some of the demolished structures have also been noted, including parts of former walls to the rear of the house, and an extensive brick floor from a former barn underlying large parts of the rear lawn. {1}{2}{3}
