Full Description

Brook Cottage is recorded on the 1887 Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 map, and comprises a collection of inter-connected buildings. The farmhouse is detached from the main complex. There has been some loss of the buildings since this time. More modern structures constructed of breeze blocks and corrugated metal are located to the north of the complex. {1}{2} A programme of historic building recording was undertaken on the two storey barn at Brook Cottage Farmstead prior to its proposed change of use to residential. The photographic record shows that the barn is of red brick in English Garden Wall bond with a pantile roof. There are some modern alterations, including panelled windows on the first floor, as well as possible awning window replacements for former vents. The brickwork suggests that the northern extension of the barn is a later addition. {3}
