Full Description
A culvert or drain was recorded in October-November 2015 during a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording on land to the west of Kettlethorpe Hall. The drain dated between the 18th and 20th centuries. It was contained within a 1.1m wide, 0.4m deep cut with unworked sandstone filling the base, which supported the brickwork for the drain. An assemblage of early modern ceramic building materials were recovered from the fill. Two ditches were also recorded on the site. The northernmost ditch was oriented north-east/south-west. It measured 17m+ in length, 0.8m wide, and 0.3m deep, and contained ceramic building materials dating to the 18th to 20th centuries. The southernmost ditch was north-south oriented, and had been cut by the northerly ditch. It measured 0.9m wide by 0.4m deep. These features are likely to be related to the 18th century and later redevelopment of the site. {1}{2}
