The mortuary chapel at Whaplode Cemetery is believed to have been built in 1893, at the same time that the cemetery is thought to have been established. An invitation for tenders to be submitted for the construction of the cemetery and associated mortuary chapel was published in the Stamford Mercury in 1893. A report on the consecration and opening of part of the cemetery was published in the Lincolnshire Echo in 1894. The building is first depicted on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map of 1904, where it is labelled as being non-denominational. The building is of red brick, with stone dressings around the windows and doors, and features pitched roofs of slate. Permission to demolish the building was granted by Whaplode Parish Council in 2020. {1}{2}{3}{4}
