Full Description

Whaplode Cemetery is believed to have been established in 1893, and it remains in use to the current day. An invitation for tenders to be submitted for the construction of the cemetery and associated mortuary chapel was published in the Stamford Mercury in 1893. A report on the consecration and opening of part of the cemetery was published in the Lincolnshire Echo in 1894. The site is first depicted on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map of 1904. The original area of the cemetery had been expanded northwards to its current extent by 1931, as is visible on later Ordnance Survey mapping. {1}{2}{3}{4}
