Full Description

A pit alignment was identified as cropmarks in aerial photographs dating to the 1970s-1980s running in an irregular linear arrangement approximately northeast to southwest. {1} A geophysical survey undertaken in 2018 suggests the alignment may form part of a larger system, with the survey results identifying a linear feature on the same alignment in the same location contiguous with several other linear features forming a broadly northeast to southwest aligned system of boundaries. It is unclear based on the geophysical survey results whether all of the linear features are true ditches or are pit alignments. A broadly rectangular enclosure on the same alignment was also noted. {2} The form of the pit alignment and linear features, in conjunction with a nearby scatter of Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age flints (MLI34844), a Scheduled barrow (MLI30081), and an additional possible barrow or ring ditch (MLI127427) identified in the same 2018 geophysical survey is suggestive of a later prehistoric date for the system.
