Full Description

A small quantity of redeposited medieval pottery was identified in early 2016, during archaeological monitoring of the construction of an extension to the rear of the Vine Street Surgery. The assemblage was recovered from a series of post-medieval and modern made ground deposits and pits, with the earliest sherd being a handle from a Nottingham Light-bodied Glazed ware jug of 13th to early/mid 14th century. The other sherds were of 15 or 16th century date, and included fragments from a large, cylindrical Midlands Purple ware jar, a Toynton/Bourne type jug, 3 sherds from several Bourne type jugs or jars, and 2 sherds from Cistercian ware cups. {1}{2}
