Full Description
The former farm buildings on land to the west of Brigg Road were the subject of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in March 2018 prior to their proposed conversion into residential use. The group is comprised of a central barn and cow shed, with later ranges added to each side creating a u-shaped arrangement. The central building is thought to date from the mid to late 19th century, being first depicted on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. The later east and west ranges were mid 20th century additions, and appear to have been used as piggeries and storerooms. The buildings are single storey, and were built out of a mix of red-orange and reddish pink brick in English Garden Wall bond, Scottish bond or Stretcher bond, depending on the phase of construction. The central block had a gabled roof of pantiles, whilst the west wing had a monopitched roof of modern corrugated asbestos sheet, and the east wing was roofless at the time of recording. A small section of brick walling in the eastern elevation of the west wing matched that of the central range. It was therefore thought likely that this mid 20th century west range was a re-build of an earlier structure in this location. {1}{2}{3}
