Full Description
The threshing barn, granary and cart shed at Bruff Farm was included in a programme of historic building recording, conducted in August 2013 to inform their proposed conversion into residential use. The building is thought to date to the late 19th century, being constructed at around the same time as the nearby farmhouse (see PRN 58322). It is not depicted on a parish plan map from 1866, but does appear on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map, suggesting a date of construction around the 1870s. The building is of two storeys, and is of red brick laid in English Garden Wall bond with lime mortar. The roof is hipped and covered with red clay pantiles, although the central portion of the roof structure was missing at the time of recording. The former cart shed with granary above is to the northern end of the barn. The north-western elevation of the barn has a large double span entrance, which is opposite a single span entrance on the south-eastern elevation. The north-western elevation of the cartshed had 2 open fronted bays, which were closed with wooden doors in the 20th century. The interior of the barn was a single room, open to the roof beams, that had access to the adjoing 1st floor granary. {1}{2}{3}
