Full Description

The cattle shelter and crew yard at Castle Farm was included in a programme of historic building recording, conducted in April 2017 , prior to the proposed redevelopment of the farm buildings. The structures are thought to date from the early to mid 19th century, and are arranged with the shelter to the south, open to the crew yard along its northern elevation. It is a single storey building, constructed in uncoursed ironstone rubble with a mono-pitched pantile roof. The crewyard is enclosed by a high stone wall on the south and east sides, which gives the impression of a curtain wall. This increased the appearance of the adjacent farmhouse as a castle, especially when seen from a distance (see PRN 55924). A portion of the curtain wall has collapsed. The structures were demolished in 2019. {1}{2}
