Full Description

The remains of two intercutting linear ditches were recorded in this area in June 2019, during archaeological monitoring of new construction on land at Westbrooke Road. One of the ditches ran on the same north-east to south-west axis as the ditches recorded in the previous phase of archaeological monitoring (see PRN 71267), and may be a continuation of one of those features. The other ditch ran on a roughly east to west alignment, and was cut by the first ditch (therefore being stratigraphically earlier). The alignment of both features was different to the field pattern shown on late 19th century mapping of this area, and it was thought likely that the ditches predated the post-medieval drainage and enclosure programme here. No dating material was recovered from either of the features, however, and their exact origins could not be determined. {1}{2}
