Full Description

Remains of medieval ridge and furrow were recorded in this area in November 2018, during trial trenching on land to the west of Fiskerton Road. The furrows were all aligned on a roughly north-north-west to south-south-east axis, but all had been truncated by modern agricultural activity. A single sherd of pottery from a 13th century Nottingham Glazed ware jug was recovered from one of the furrow fills. The jug had burnt or misfired copper-green glaze and applied scale and strip decoration. {1}{2} Further traces of probable medieval ridge and furrow were identified in July 2019, during magnetometry survey of land to the west of Fiskerton Road. The survey recorded a series of parallel linear magnetic anomalies, to the south-west of the area previously investigated by trial trenching. All of the anomalies were aligned on the same north-north-west to south-south-east axis previously recorded. {3}
