Full Description

Remains of medieval ridge and furrow have been discerned in this paddock behind Station Road and Town Road. The remains are clearly visible as prominent earthworks on the Bing Maps aerial photographic layer, with the furrows being largely aligned on a roughly north-west to south-east axis. A small part of the remains in the north-eastern corner of the field run perpendicular to the main direction, however, and may represent a division of the open field system here. {1} The ridge and furrow in this location was the subject of a detailed earthwork survey, conducted in November 2021, to inform proposed residential development. The pattern of ridge and furrow previously identified was confirmed, with the average spacing between the tops of the ridges measuring approximately 9m. {2}{3}
