Full Description
Threshing barn and probable straw house, located in the northern range of the main farm building complex at Hall Farm. They were recorded as part of a programme of historic building recording that took place in November 2017, prior to the building's conversion to residential use. The barn and straw house are located on the eastern end of the northern range. It is a two storey structure, constructed out of coursed limestone with dressed stone quoins, and around the window and smaller door openings. The building has a pitched, timber-framed roof, covered with slates. The eastern portion of this part of the range is the threshing barn, which has two large opposing openings in the northern and southern elevations. These openings are segmental arches, built using bull-nosed bricks. There are ventilation holes at the lower level on both the northern and southern elevations. The northern elevation also has a pitching hole at first floor level, and there is a square window in the eastern elevation. The interior is open to the roof, and there is evidence for a mezzanine floor. The western portion of this part of the range is a probable straw house. It has opposing single doors on the northern and southern elevations, and is open to the roof inside. The barn and straw house are thought to date to the mid 19th century. {1}{2}
