Full Description

Stone Cottage on Main Road dates to the late 18th century. The cottage is of 2 storeys and has 3 bays, and is built of coursed and squared limestone rubble. The roof is pitched and covered with modern cement tiles, and there are gable stacks at each end. The eastern elevation is the front of the house, and the door is flanked on either side by windows. The north and south elevations have no openings. There is a brick built extension off the western elevation, which was added in the 1970s. Some of the masonry is thought to have been taken from Barlings or Bullington Priories, and re-used in the construction of the cottage. Stone Cottage was assessed for listing by Historic England in July 2018. Although the cottage is of local historical interest, it was decided that the criteria for listing was not met in this instance, as this style of building is of a standard form which survives in large numbers, and the cottage was significantly altered in the 1970s. {1}
