Full Description

Two linear features were found in this area in January 2011, during trial trenching on land at Grange Farm. The trenches were placed to investigate the cause of a 'T' shaped cropmark previously noted in this location. The cropmarks correlated very well with the linear features, one of which ran east to west, parallel to Nettleham Grange. The other linear feature ran north to south, perpendicular to the first to create the 'T' shape. Waterlogged, well preserved brushwood was uncovered at the base of the east-west linear. This was carbon dated, and returned a date of approximately AD1800. It was therefore thought likely that the linears were related to late post-medieval landscaping or agricultural activities on the Sudbrooke Holme Estate. {1}
