Full Description

The ha ha wall is found on the south and west sides of Spridlington Hall (see MLI96616). The exact date of construction is unknown, but it was likely built between 1950 and 1967. It provides a physical barrier between the field and the gardens without interrupting the views from the house. It is built out of red bricks set on the diagonal to create a diamond or squared-herringbone pattern, with the headers as the finished surface. The majority of the wall is topped with chamfered or saddleback coping stones, with some sections having concrete coping stones. There are four bastions of various sizes on the south and south-eastern sides of the ha ha. The wall previously extended further to the north-west, but was altered during the construction of the tennis court in that area. {1}{2}
