Full Description

The former Methodist chapel in Whaplode St Catherine. The date of construction is unknown, but the chapel does appear on the 1st ed. 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map from the 1880s. It was in use as a Methodist chapel until its demolition in 1995. The Whaplode St Catherine war memorial was originally located at the chapel. It was an arched gateway to the chapel entrance with the memorial tablets inset into the two brick pillars surmounted by a Portland stone arch bearing the dates 1914-1918. It was built to honour the fallen from the First World War. It was unveiled in 1921, and was moved to the Village Hall in 1995 when the chapel was demolished (see PRN 27286). {1}{2}
