Full Description

Ropsley and Humby parish war memorial is located on Ropsley Village Green at the junction of Peck Hill and Chapel Hill. The memorial commemorates the fallen of the First World War. It was dedicated in 1922. The memorial is a 10.5ft (3m) polished red obelisk on a tapered plinth with the inscriptions engraved in gold lettering. The memorial was formerly accompanied by a German trench mortar that had been given to the village as a war prize in 1919. The mortar and the iron railings surrounding the memorial were removed during the Second World War. It was rebuilt and rededicated in 2003 after sustaining damage from a milk float. {1}
