Full Description
Several Anglo-Saxon sculptural fragments are held inside the Church of St Swithin at Bicker. The collection is largely held loose at the western end of the nave, but also includes a fragment built into a stoup in the south porch, above a probable 15th century basin. The stones are carved with interlace decoration, and are thought to be from a variety of mid 10th to late 11th century carved Saxon crosses and grave slabs. The fragments suggest a Saxon church may have existed in this location, prior to the construction of the current early 12th century church (see MLI12522). {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
