Full Description

Early 12th century parish church, with later alterations, and considerable restoration works 1876-1911. Built of limestone ashlar with lead roofs. Features a truncated nave with clerestory, aisles, central tower, transepts, chancel with clerestory and aisles, and south porch. The 3 stage tower has chamfered string courses and embattled parapet with grotesques and early 14th century 2 light belfry openings with trefoil heads and quatrefoils. Several mid 10th to late 11th century Anglo-Saxon sculptural fragments are held inside the Church of St Swithin at Bicker (see MLI12526). The fragments suggest a Saxon church may have existed in this location, prior to the construction of the current early 12th century church. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}{8}{9} Early 14th century stained glass can be found in situ in this church. {10}
